Karate-do: The Belt System

Hi! It’s me, Vince. Are you into any kind of sports or martial arts activities? If you’re asking me, I’m into martial arts, particularly Karate-do since last year. I find this a fun way of exercise, a way of learning self-defense as well as self-discipline. Aside from I mentioned earlier the benefits I acquire from Karate-do mom also shared a post on her blog the Healthy Dose of Karate-do.

In my year of this sport, I am already a yellow belt holder which I gained on the 7th day of February of this year. Do you know how to level up in Karate-do and the significance of belt colors? If not, I’m going to talk below the belt system of karate-do and how to achieve the next rank.

The color of Karate-do belts signifies the student’s level of expertise. Colors used are white, yellow, orange, blue, green, purple, brown and black. To earn the next belt rank and color karate-do student needs to undergo and pass the test just what I did.

Beginner

When I begin studying karate-do I wear a white belt which signifies the beginner status. As a beginner teacher, Sensei Dante teaches the basic karate-do skills, most of which is mental discipline. He also teaches us to master posture and natural body positions. Self-discipline is required in the training for us to achieve goals and a higher level of potential.

Speaking of higher level, I passed the test to earn the next belt and that is yellow. A yellow belt student, mastering the 10 beginner self-defense techniques is a must before moving to an orange belt which is the third rank color. Orange belt students of karate-do focus more on learning physical conditioning and perfecting a few offensive moves which are needed to the intermediate rank of a karate-do student.

Intermediate

Colors of the belt in this level are green, blue, purple and brown. Karate-do students in this rank learn more in-depth karate techniques and skills. Nearly 200 karate-do techniques are need to master by the students before moving up to the most advanced color which is the black one.

Advanced

The most advanced belt color is black. Earning black belt signifies that student is much ready for more advanced training. The black belt comes in several degrees like “shodan” if you first achieve the black color.

When I leveled up the color of my belt, I was really happy. All the pieces of training are worth it and felt that I have established an unstoppable power and confidence to face all life’s journey and in anything I do. But I know that just like my yellow belt, this is just the beginning of my journey in karate-do, and I will still undergo more training and learn new whereabouts of Karate-do just like you, so keep coming back to this web page for I’ll be sharing more of it.
